Square Play is proposed as a structure to tap into the instinct to play. The structure is made of a limited palette of reusable materials (standard 1.90” aluminum pipe), pipe fittings, and 3/8” bungee cords. Through a simple logic of rotating squares within a 12’ x 12’ x 12’ cube a set of spaces are created. The resulting interior space is intended as a place of contemplation while the exterior perimeter is a play surface, on which the inhabitant can climb, perch, crawl through, and watch.
